Former Buccaneers wide receiver Michael Clayton, shown here failing to make a catch against the Giants in 2006, is now a Giant, according to multiple reports.
For the second straight week, an injury at wide receiver has forced the Giants to add a veteran.
Former Buccaneers wide receiver Michael Clayton will sign a one-year deal with the team, his representatives confirmed via their Twitter acount.
The signing was first reported by WFAN's Shaun Morash.
The Giants have yet to announce the signing.
Clayton, 28, had 221 receptions for 2,936 yards and 10 touchdowns in six seasons with Tampa Bay. Those are solid numbers but not nearly what many projected after Clayton caught 80 passes for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2004.
Clayton now has three days of practice to get ready for this weekend's game against the Jaguars. With Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith out of action, it's likely he'll dress for the game. How much time he gets and how effective he can be remains to be seen.
Clayton had eight catches for 88 yards in three games with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks.

The Giants haven't announced this move yet, but would need to make room on the 53 man roster

I'll support the move but why does Clayton seem to me like he's a lot older than just 28 and since he's not, why did he fall off from the face of the planet so quick?

He had that one really good season signed a big contract than was released the next year. I didn't know exactly why but then I caught one of Omaha's last games and Clayton was not impressive. They had him returning which he sucked at. Who knows maybe our coaches can bring the best outta of him.
